Tomorrow is my birthday

January 30, 2008 at 1:34 am (Uncategorized) ()

Another year for me has come and gone.  It’s certainly been an adventure. I’ve gone no where far, but I have seen  lots of new things. Perfected my knitting and my crocheting. Joined a few craft boards, and a gardening board. As always checked on the world through www.therantpage.com Thanks to Hamp and everyone there for keeping the site going, and my mind informed on usually little known and oddly curious news.

I wonder though what is to come in the year ahead. It’s going to be interesting, whatever happens. I hope that I continue in a positive direction, and keep the great friendships that I have close to me.

To those of you that know me, thank you. You have all made it a great year.

Storms

January 26, 2008 at 10:10 pm (Uncategorized) ()

The sun rose in a pleasant enough way

I was told to get dressed and be on my way

Then the clouds started to hinder what was to be

A day of joy, laughter and celebrating

Neither could see where it would all lead

But both knew the storm would not head

A day that was so special to only one indeed

No one cared as the rain came down

No one took cover when the lightning struck the ground

Forces of nature should not be ignored

When everything is over

It is your house that is torn

Down to the beams and foundation

Showing the faults and aging

Never to be the same as in the beginning

As the clouds clear

The sun comes again

A rainbow at the end of the day

A sign that it will all be o.k.

Oh the insomnia

January 25, 2008 at 4:13 am (Uncategorized) ()

It is 4 am here. I’m still awake. I tried to lay down and get some sleep, but I failed miserably. So bad in fact, that I woke up my hubby. He’s so irritable when he’s only had a few hours sleep. I climbed out of bed and promptly started roaming the internet.

I’ve tried a cup of tea, crocheting for a while, reading a few chapters, listening to soft music, and laying in bed being very still with my eyes closed. Nothing. It’s not like I’m even thinking of anything. Usually I’m just listening to the wind chimes outside my window. I know that the wind chimes aren’t affecting my sleep because they have been out there for more than a year.

So as the rest of the little town slumbers away in the wee morning hours I’m writing in my blog. I guess that’s somewhat productive.

Amigurumi

January 22, 2008 at 8:22 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

I made my first amigurumi. It’s a little black and white kitty. It was really fun to make all the little pieces. Sewing them all together wasn’t that fun, but it went rather quickly.

I really like the book the pattern came from. It’s called Kyuuto! Japanese Crafts Amigurumi. The patterns are really easy to fallow, and the sewing directions are clearly stated. There are 20 patterns in the book, and I can’t wait to try them all.

This one will be displayed in my LYS. kitty

Just a thought

January 21, 2008 at 6:09 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

As the sun begins it’s decline, and the night become a blanket for the world, I think back to the many times before this moment has happened. The moment between day and night. The change between light and dark. The rainbow that appears as the sun takes it’s final bow and rests before arising again tomorrow. I look out the window and see the purples, blues, oranges, reds that streak the sky before all gives way to the endless black dotted with stars, planets, moons, galaxies so far away from our own. I think of the peacefulness that settles over me when thinking just how small I am, you are, everything is, compared to the vastness that surrounds us.

None of us think twice as we get in our cars, and drive to are ever important jobs, meet with our friends, and complete the same tasks repeatedly. This is the way it is, we are told. Without it, chaos.

I just sit here and think. Before clocks, corporations,  cars, cell phones, schools, jobs, there were people. But I read nothing of chaos.

It annoys me

January 20, 2008 at 12:05 am (Uncategorized) (, )

My hubby’s birthday is next week. He told me a while back that he would like a strawberry cake. I told him that was no problem. I then made the mistake of telling his mother. She then insisted that she would make this strawberry cake she use to make when he was a kid.

She can take the simplest thing I want to do for him and turn it into a, “You can’t do it the way he likes it” debate. If he didn’t like the way I did something, don’t you think I would know? Granted, I can’t make gravy like her, and I’ll probably never learn how to make grits. But a cake? I can make a cake. I have stood in the kitchen and baked cakes, cookies, muffins. I’ve even made a few dinners in the 6 years I’ve been living on my own. But for some unknown reason to me she believes that I can’t bake or cook anything to suit him. It really is very annoying to be second guessed every time you make something to eat. Asked every little detail on how it was made and what went into it. Then told how some one else, who isn’t even eating it, has never ate it, would do it differently.

Yeah, Virginia is sounding really nice, if I can’t make Japan.

The shrug

January 19, 2008 at 5:37 am (Uncategorized) (, )

I got the pattern from Interweave Crochet. I believe the fall 2007 edition. Hook & Weave shrug.

Not a bad crochet, though the sleeves are wicked long on me. I had to fold them over a bunch, but it does keep me rather toasty. I also did this for the Start wearing purple knit-a-long the Gogol Bordello group on Ravelry was doing.shrug

Knit at Night

January 18, 2008 at 4:41 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

My LYS is doing there once a month knit at night tonight. I’m taking my niece with me because she has expressed a desire to learn how to knit, or crochet. She’s very excited and has called me already this morning.

In other news, I finished my  shrug. It turned out really good. I’m going to take some pictures at some point today.

Now, to bake something for the knitting tonight….

Snow

January 17, 2008 at 4:43 pm (Uncategorized) ()

birdsIt snowed here. Now this is a big event. It doesn’t often snow here. The trees are sparkling with ice, the ground is white and my birds are going crazy! Yes, I feed the local birds. I wake everyday to the songs of Cardinals, finches, Blue Jays, sparrows, Dark eyed Juncos, titmice, chickadees, and one lone squirrel from time to time. Today I seem to have more than normal. It seems that I am the only person in town who feeds the birds. I know this isn’t true. I have seen a few other houses with one or two feeders out. I looked out my window to see 11 male Cardinals. Imagine, big blots of red fluttering amongst a white and green background. It makes you wonder why they couldn’t do this in December. I’ll take snow any time I can get it!

I feed the birds for purely selfish reasons. I can see the change of seasons with the change of birds. Dark eyed Juncos are here in winter. The Robins start to show in spring. In summer the hummingbirds buzz by my head. I can tell when it will be cold again, just by them leaving. I plant certain flowers just to insure that I will see one or two every year. Hummingbirds are my grandmothers favorite bird. Every time I see them, I think of her. She lives a few hours away so I don’t see her as much as I would like. This way I feel close to her more often.

They are calling for another storm on Saturday. I hope to see more birds than usual again. Doting my white world with a rainbow of color.

Jan 16

January 16, 2008 at 3:32 pm (Uncategorized) ()

I have come to the realization that today is January the 16th. That means that January is already half over. This may not mean much to you, but I can’t remember half of last year. I swear I slept through three months. I must have. An entire year just flew by. Now, already half of January is gone. I’ve done pretty good though. Knitted a skull bag. Read a couple of books. Watched my Amaryllis bloom. Yes, so far, January has been good.
