Cedar Waxwing

March 27, 2008 at 12:33 am (Uncategorized) (, , )

There are a lot of things I love to do, garden, knit, bake, and feed the birds. My grandmother feeds her birds and squirrels, and I’m sure it started there. So, a little over a year ago, I had one new feeder and a bag of mixed bird seed. Three Cardinals later, I was hooked. I can identify most birds that show up in my garden thanks to the help of books, websites and friends.

So, I have looked over most of the birds that are common in this area and saw one that I fell in love with, and thought, not in my yard.

A Cedar Waxwing. Why not in my yard? Their dietary needs are almost exclusively berries. I don’t have many plants near me that produce berries. So, imagine my surprise when I look out my window earlier this week and see a Cedar Waxwing. After snapping a few pictures of him, he flew off. I haven’t seen him since. But, I hope he will come back when my Chokecherry trees send out their berries.

Garden fever

March 26, 2008 at 1:35 am (Uncategorized) ()

Sorry I haven’t been writing much. I’ve been outside, in the sun, planting, taking pictures and telling hubby everything I want done this year. This is the first year I have complete access to the front yard. Last year their were dog issues, but this year, it’s all mine. Bwahaha. So, here is a pic of my newest bush called Red Quince.

I’ve also been doing some knitting. Sorry no pics until my craft partner receives! I don’t want to spoil the surprise!

Muscari

March 18, 2008 at 1:04 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

My muscari are blooming. I love these little cute flowers that bloom just as my daffs begin to fade and before my tulips take over the show. They are like a surprise that can be easily missed if you are to busy to stop and take a breath. They always remind me to slow down and breath. muscari

Daffodils

My daffodils are beginning to bloom. It’s 62 degrees out and my little garden is beginning to wake up from it’s winter’s slumber. Soon I’ll have fresh veggies and roses, poppies, tulips, columbines. Maybe even a clematis on my arbor.

Dog Amigurumi

I finished another one from Kyuuto! Japanese craft. This one has actually been done for a while, but hubby wanted it to have certain eyes, and since it was for him, I didn’t sew it all together waiting to find these eyes. He finally consented to having different eyes.

This one was a bit harder than the others I did. It was still fun though, and pretty quick to finish.030908-001.jpg

Flogging Molly, you know, the band

March 8, 2008 at 2:19 am (Uncategorized) (, )

Flogging Molly is one of my favorite bands. They put out a new CD on March 4th. Hubby bought it for me today. OMG, it rocks. I love all the songs and the upbeatiness of the CD. I’m only sad that I couldn’t go and see them this year in concert. Maybe next time they come around.

If you haven’t heard of them, take a minute and check them out.

66 degrees and beautiful

March 2, 2008 at 2:20 pm (Uncategorized) ()

Spring is coming! Today is beautiful. Not a cloud in the sky. I got out and weeded a bit, tilled the veggie garden and started making plans for the ever common expansion of my flower beds. Will I ever be done? Who knows. I don’t plan on it!

So off I am to think of more things to plant.
